The New Hot Spot: Real and Rosemary

Chad Ellis

I was enjoying my time in Homewood, AL this weekend, which is my favorite part of town to be on a Saturday morning, when I stopped by the new fast-casual, farm-to-table restaurant Real and Rosemary. The restaurant is just opening this week and I've heard so many great things about the concept. I admit, I've been talking to owner Jennifer Mims and her partner Nate Carlson about their concept for a couple of months now and have been patiently awaiting in eager anticipation for their launch. It was one of the most impressive experiences I've had recently.

As I walked in I was blown away by the aesthetics of the space. While everything looked brand new, the restaurant has a welcoming feel as if it has always been there. Marble tables and bartop, unfinished wooden shelves, and white boarded walls made the place feel like home. The light seemed to just come in and fill the entire space. The Staff was extremely friendly, each member greeted me with a great smile and eagerness to help. It's a sharp crew without a doubt.

Well, the cuisine matched the effort of the decor for this chic new spot. For those of you who know me know how much I love food. Cooking and dining out are part of my favorite past times. So I'm always excited about finding a place where I can dine with friends.

The food and presentation were on point. I started with the Sweet Potato Wedges served with Rosemary and Garlic Cream Fresh Dip, which the perfect appetizer and moved on to the Beet, Fig and Goat Cheese Sandwich on Raisin Walnut bread. The portions were perfect. Not so much that you are calling in for a stretcher to get back to work but not so little that you confuse it with a palette cleanser. I left feeling excited to tackle the rest of my designs for the afternoon.

I look forward to stopping back by this week to enjoy a glass of Sparkling Cab Franc Rose, delicious Vouvray (which mean's I'm getting that sandwich again) and finishing my meal with a small digestif of a Spanish vermouth. My excitement for this new spot is only building.
